OUTLINES Bristol gig 13th March

I’m playing at The Be-Bop Club this Thursday 13th March with my Avant-Jazz group OUTLINES, with Rebecca Nash, Nick Malcolm, Olie Brice and Andrew Lisle. We’ll be playing tunes from our album and a brand new piece I’ve been working on.

The new composition, ‘A Fallow Field’ explores the subconscious undercurrents & bubbling underground activity that reveals itself when we slow down. How so much of life can become surface living, trying to keep up with demands (both internal and external). This composition is part of a larger body of work uncovering the hidden corners of both our physical, psychological & ethereal worlds when we take time to be quiet, stop, reflect & process. Watch this space for further updates!

OUTLINES at Bath Jazz Weekend 4th Jan 2025

Great to play at Bath Jazz Weekend on Saturday to a SOLD OUT room!!

Good vibes and warmth were generated despite the freezing temperatures outside. Thanks to Nod Knowles for organising and to everyone who braved the weather to come.

A few reviews of the gig:

‘… a contemporary approach to small band, collective, free-wheeling improvisations. Her layered and pulsing themes, driven along by the energy of Olie Brice’s bass and Andrew Lisle on the kit, prepared the ground for some formidable and expansive soloing, not least from Byrne herself.’ Mike Collins, UK Jazz News

‘Saxophonist Dee Byrne’s Outlines sextet swung effortlessly from harmonic chorales to free blowing anarchy and back’ Tony Benjamin, Bristol24/7

‘I wasn’t the only audience member to enjoy this thrilling blend of composition and improvisation with Byrne’s evocative, colourful and intelligent writing given colourful voice by a supremely talented sextet of hand picked collaborators.’ Ian Mann, The Jazz Mann

Thanks to my fantastic band: Nicholas Malcolm, Tom Ward, Rebecca Nash, Olie Brice & Andrew Lisle.
